Matt McCormick, PhD

Chief Technology Officer

  • Over seven years experience in the design, manufacturing, and use of optical spectropscopic instruments (FTIR, UV-DOAS, Raman) for sample characterization.
  • Ph.D. Physics, University of Texas at Austin, 2013
  • B.S. Mathematics & Physics, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 2005

In graduate school, Matt studied the optical design of high-intensity lasers while also using them to conduct experiments to study extremely short time-scale (picosecond) plasma physics. Upon leaving school, he shifted his area of study into the optical spectroscopy realm.

Using his general physics knowledge and design skills, he designs, creates, and uses spectroscopy instruments for ambient air or extractive sample characterization, as well as being heavily involved in the technical integration of systems into a facility. As Chief Technology Officer, he oversees production of the standard instruments Spectrum offers as well as developing new product offerings to meet marketplace needs.
